Tottenham were linked with Owen Wijndal but it now looks like the AZ Alkmaar ace is more likely to sign for Ajax this summer.
Tottenham’s busy start to the summer window has seen them pick up three new signings already in Fraser Forster, Ivan Perisic and Yves Bissouma.
Fabio Paratici is still busy working on potential new signings for Tottenham as Antonio Conte leads his side into the Champions League.
Whilst Perisic is likely to predominantly feature as a left wing back at Tottenham, there have been links to another option there.
Tottenham were linked with Owen Wijndal
Tottenham haven’t yet sold Sergio Reguilon and Ryan Sessegnon appears to be in contention for regular minutes under Conte.
Yet that didn’t stop a rumour emerging earlier this month, with Foot Mercato reporting that Tottenham had made a move for AZ Alkmaar ace Wijndal.
It was suggested that Tottenham had opened talks with AZ as they looked to snap up Wijndal ahead of Napoli, Juventus and Lyon.
Wijndal, 22, was outstanding last season as he racked up 12 assists for the Eredivisie side.
Tottenham may well have seen Wijndal as another option at left wing back but that surely won’t be happening unless Reguilon leaves.
Fabrizio Romano has now taken to Twitter to report that two clubs have recently backed out of the race for Wijndal.
It would certainly make sense if Tottenham were one of them, possibly backing away because Perisic is now on board.
Romano claims that Ajax are working on a deal with Wijndal’s representatives and now have ‘positive feelings’ because of two clubs cooling their interest.
Ajax look set to offload Nicolas Tagliafico this summer and that would free up room for Wijndal to come in as their new left back.
A move to Tottenham ultimately looks very unlikely now, but if Paratici is still keen, he needs to make his move quickly as Ajax close in.
