MESUT OZIL will undergo surgery this weekend to try to solve his back pain.
But it does mean the former Arsenal star is ready for a long spell on the sidelines.
Ozil, 33, has suffered from ongoing back problems in recent years, missing 31 matches since 2018.
And he hopes that going under the knife will fix his problems.
He tweeted: “Unfortunately I’ll be out longer.
“I’m going to have surgery this weekend to finally get rid of the pain in my back again.
“I will do my best to get back on the field as soon as possible.
“Thank you for all your love and support.”
Ozil, who was sacked by Arsenal in 2021, joined Istanbul Basaksehir in the summer on an initial one-year deal 29 minutes after his contract with Fenerbahce was broken.
He was “excluded” from the Fenerbahce team after a dispute with then caretaker boss Ismail Kartal.

But the former Germany international endured a nightmarish start under Basaksehir.
Ozil, playing for the reserves, was beaten 7-1 by Kasimpasa in a humiliating defeat on his debut.
However, your surgery will mean you can spend more time at home with your family.
