Premier League ace Marcus Rashford proposed to his childhood sweetheart during a romantic trip to Hollywood.
The 24-year-old Manchester United forward popped the question to public relations executive Lucia Loi, also 24, while touring celebrity hangouts in Los Angeles.
A source said: “They are on the moon. Marcus has been planning this for a while and he wanted to make it special.
“They went out to Los Angeles for a romantic night together on Tuesday and he proposed to her right there. It was extremely romantic.
“They then celebrated with a group of close friends, including his Manchester United teammate Jesse Lingard.”
Rashford and Lucia flew to the US after their United team was beaten 1-0 by Crystal Palace on the final day of the season.
The couple is believed to have dined at famed seafood restaurant Catch LA, which serves oysters, jumbo prawns, sautéed snapper and an £85 lobster.
They enjoyed a night on the rooftop terrace with views of the Hollywood skyline and private dinners for their A-list clients.
And he was beaming after college graduate Lucia agreed to marry him.
A source said: “Everyone involved is delighted at the recent news of the engagement. Lucia has been a huge part of Marcus’ life since school, offering stability, a sense of belonging, identification and security, which can be rare to find in this world.
“This is a very special and welcome moment for both of them and everyone wished them well.”
The couple first fell in love at Ashton on Mersey School, in Sale, Greater Manchester, when they were 15.
But after eight years together, they split in May last year, blaming the pandemic and the pressures of the lockdown.
They met in January this year.
Rashford, an campaigner against child poverty, has struggled to keep a place in the United side after undergoing shoulder surgery.
He started just 13 league games and was left out of Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Nations League games next month.
But Rashford has vowed to fight for his place at the World Cup in Qatar later this year.
