Speaking ahead of Everton’s trip to Norwich City, Rafa Benítez has confirmed that Tom Davies will miss a considerable spell due to injury.

An academy graduate and former England under-21 international, Davies has already made 158 senior appearances for the Toffees aged just 23.

But his 2021/22 campaign has been hit hard by injuries.

He injured his knee against the Spurs in November and missed several games, then suffered another injury in late December just as he was approaching his return.

This hamstring problem required an operation, which Everton confirmed earlier this week had been successful.

EVERTON ARE COMPLETE GARBAGE NOW.

It was unclear how long his recovery time was expected to be until an update was given by his manager on Friday afternoon.

“It’s hard to say,” replied Benítez after being asked by Davies [Evertonfc.com]. “With this kind of thing, you are waiting more than a month… [how long he is out for] It has to be decided by the surgeon and then by the physio”.

“But I’m sure he’ll be out for a month or two.”

It is a blow to Everton to be without the extremely talented midfielder for such a considerable period, and the player himself must be feeling frustrated.

He only managed seven appearances in a season he really would have hoped to start.

Better news elsewhere for Toffees ahead of the Norwich clash

However, it’s certainly not all bad news for Everton ahead of the trip to Norwich.

While Alex Iwobi is away for Nigeria at the African Cup of Nations, Benítez confirmed that everyone else had trained and had a chance to play against the Canaries, including new addition Anwar El Ghazi.

Although it’s unlikely that everyone who was previously injured will start, the returns to fitness of Yerry Mina and Jarrad Branthwaite give Rafa more options at the back, while supporters are longing to see Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison in the same team of the day for some time.
