Speaking on his YouTube channel, Arsenal journalist Charles Watts has shared an update on the Gunners’ interest in Victor Osimhen.
The Nigerian striker has been linked with Arsenal for some time now, and according to Watts, the London club have held talks with Osimhen’s agents.
However, while that sounds promising, the journalist stated that a deal will be very difficult to do, claiming that it will be very expensive and very tough to negotiate with Napoli.
What’s been said?
Watts shared what he knows about Osimhen.
“You’ll be happy to know that they have held talks with his agent. He flew in last week and held talks with Edu about Osimhen,” Watts said.
However, it wasn’t all good news for Arsenal fans.
“Now, this is not me saying that Arsenal will sign him. Arsenal are aware that it will be very difficult to sign Osimhen, mainly because of who he plays for, Napoli are notoriously difficult to deal with.
“They don’t have to sell, they’re in the Champions league and they only signed Osimhen in 2020, and they paid £68m for him I think, so if Arsenal are going to do a deal for him, they’ll have to pay in excess of that and you’re pushing towards three figures then. It is something they’re exploring and he is a striker who is on their list of targets.”
Better out there
Osimhen is a fantastic striker. In fact, he’s even been labelled as ‘phenomenal’ in the past, but if the Gunners are having to pay north of £100m for him, then it has to be said that there are better options out there.
Gabriel Jesus is available for a fraction of the price, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin also surely wouldn’t cost that much. These two are proven at Premier League level, while Osimhen would be something of a gamble having never played in England.
Arsenal may want to desert any plans they have of signing Osimhen if he’s going to be this expensive.
