“Around the World”: Denmark apologizes for taking children from Greenland years ago-RTHK

The Danish government officially apologized for a social experiment in the 1950s with children on Greenland. That year, 22 children were taken away from their families on the island and sent to Denmark for education. They hoped that after returning to Greenland, they would serve as models to promote social development and strengthen cultural ties between the two places, but the experiment ended in failure. After most of the children returned to their original places of residence, many of them had forgotten their mother tongue and were disconnected from their own culture. They could no longer integrate into the society. Most of them have never seen their families ever since.
